What’s the best decongestant that doesn’t make you drowsy?

buy ibuprofen

Im pretty sure I have a head cold. I can’t breathe through my nose, my ears feel like they;re popping and I have a slight headache. Other than the fact my head feels like a balloon, i feel fine.
I’ve got a party later and Motrin isn’t cutting it. Whats the best decongestant that will not make me drowsy?

Thanks

infant illness, any ideas?

First and foremost, we are working very diligintly with our pediatrician to get to the bottom of what is going on. I am not using this as a means of diagnosing my daughter, but mearly seeing if anyone has any outside views or if this sounds familiar to anyone.

She is 9 months old and weighs about 20 lbs. weight gain has slowed, gone from 75th-90th% at 6 months to 25-50th% now at 9 months. we are hoping to get an answer without having to take blood again.

Starting on sun march 8th my daughter has had an on again, off again fever. her average temp is a little elevated from her normal one but with spikes of temp going up to 103.9 (highest i have seen). Initially thought to be a fever virus we are now on day 11 of this illness. Here goes:

day 1: high fever 103.9. vomits twice both times after waking up. great attitude when rested and playing but as soon as she gets tired or feverish she is inconsolable. talk to doc twice.

day 3: visit to doc office. still thought to be a fever virus. heavy on liquids and motrin/tylonol to control fever. watch for 24 hours.

day 4-9: fever does go down at first but slowly rises again. no more vomitting. great attitude at first but decreases as the week progresses.

day 9: woke up middle of night with congestion and high fever. back to doc office. ears, throat, nose checks out, chest sounds fine. chest and sinus xrays ordered just in case.

xrays look fine, but there was a ‘patchy inflitrate’. doc said that it is not pneumonia but due to an infection. thoughts of a urinary tract infection so a cathedar was ordered in office. negative.

blood work ordered to determine if it is viral or bacterial. due to fever she was too dehydrated to get enough blood for all tests. so they ran CBC and her white blood count was high.

day 10: ran tests for mono and cat stratch fever both negative. waiting now on cytomeglo virus (hopefully in tomorrow afternoon). had her on an antibiotic bc initial thoughts were that it was mono but when test came back negative we stopped. which is good bc after taking med she took a nap but woke up with a rash on her legs from knee down that looks like a sunburn. doc does not think it is from med (she has had this one before with no problem) but seems to think that this is from the illness.

does any of this sound familiar to you? she is cutting 4 teeth but there is no way that all of this is a result of teething.

also her sleeping pattern was completely normal before all this started- bedtime at 6:30 wake up at 5 with one feeding around 2:30 am, 2 naps during the day lasting 2 hours each. now she goes to bed anywhere from 5:30-8:30 (due to when her last nap was, even though we strive hard to keep an normal bedtime) but wakes up about midnight and wont go back to bed until 3 or 4, naps are still kinda normal. she is getting gas a lot more but only in the middle of the night (maybe only noticing bc she is now awake when she was sleeping) but she is also learning to crawl and trying to learn to walk which can mess with their sleeping- after i lay her back down if i hear her playing in her bed i can see her crawling around and even sometimes standing in her bed walking around the edge- too cute.

i am sure that there is a lot of info i have forgotten to mention, let me know if you have a question.
thank you, i appreciate it.

she tested neg for flu. we have talked to our doc about a second opinion and they support that, really just waiting on the next test results. we dont want to change docs, these people are smart and on top of things. the only reason we dont have more answers is bc of the way that giving blood went, when we first went the nurse was by herself and we waited 3.5 hours (1 past bedtime) and she wasnt able to do it by herself after poking her 2 times. went back in the morning and 2 more pokes, 1 with trying ot force the blood with a suryinge and still couldnt get any. all after xrays and cath. so doc doesnt want to poke her again unless it is needed which he will order after getting these tests results.
nothing is ugly if people are being helpful!!

no siblings or abortions. she is my first and only pregnancy. born at 38 weeks. was sectioned then bc of my high blood pressure but was scheduled c-section at 39.5 weeks due to a crazy breech position and too long to turn (her head was under my ribs and they couldnt even get to her to turn her). born 8 lbs 9 ozs and 21.5 inches

Is it safe to take both Vicodin and ibuprofin within hours of each other?

ibuprofen online

I just had a baby 4 days ago by c-section and I’m still in a good amount of pain. My doctor prescribed me both Motrin 800 and Vicodin. I’ve been taking the Motrin every 8 hours as it says and haven’t taken the Vicodin at all. Since I just took the Motrin, I would have to wait until 1am to take it again, So I’m wondering if I can just take the Vicodin right before bedtime which would be about 3-4 hours from now. Thanks for the help

What is a safe pain killer for my dog that I may have around the house?

buy ibuprofen

My dog is a 2 year old 30 pound Shiba Inu cross. Earlyer tonight while my husband was brining in some groceries, my dog bolted out the door. Once he relised he was out side with out a leash, he did a cartoon-like spin out and took off as fast as his four lags would move.
My husband went after him, and finally caught up with him, and we estimate tht he ran about 2 miles. We walk him almost every night (some times it is raining so hard he doesn’t want to go out side.), but he is used to going about 1/2 to 1&1/2 miles at a walking or slow joging speed.
As the night has progressed my dog seems to be getting more and more stiff and sore. He wines slightly and can’t decide which leg of his four to favor the most. He tryed to stretch once but stopped. He has been trying to play with a couple over sized toys but seems too sore to pick them up like normal. He is eating, urinating, and even waging his tail normally, he just seems to be sore. I think during his little run he may have strained, pulled, or just plain over worked his muscles.
I can not take him to a vet tonight, because I am military stationed over seas, and the vet clinic on post will not open untill the morning. I am 99% sure that he is just sore because he is not used to running that far or that fast.
My question is what are some medications I may have around the house that I could give my dog to relive some of his pain? I also need to know how much to give him (he is about 30 lbs.). I have motrin, asprin, and some other genaric pain relivers around the house.

Please keep in mind that this is not a life thretining condition. I would like to make him a little more comfortable if possable, but in a few days he should be back to normal with out any medication. Also keep in mind that I don’t know, or the ever popular IDK is not an answer….it’s just a cheap way to gain points!
For those preaching about calling a vet… you did not read the entire question. I am over seas, and the vet office on post is not open, and there is an emergency number for life and deth only (this is not). If I can ease my dog’s pain…great. If not, my poor puppy will just have to suffer the consequences of his little romp.
another note. I know that some human medication is OK for pets. I have had veteranariens tell me that having a child’s dose of benidrill on hand for emergencys is a must! Also some pet medications accually come in flavors like bubble gum! Who would make medication for dogs and cats bubble gum flavor?….the manufatuer that had originally made it for children would!
For those preaching about calling a vet… you did not read the entire question. I am over seas, and the vet office on post is not open, and there is an emergency number for life and deth only (this is not). I am in Japan, and off post clinics do not speek English (and my Japanese is poor). If I can ease my dog’s pain…great. If not, my poor puppy will just have to suffer the consequences of his little romp.
